Correct paint?
Hi,
I am restoring a 1970 W30 convertible and want to make sure I get the paint correct on the top side of the floor pan and trunk areas. Also, the rear wheel wells. I believe all 3 of these locations should be a semi-gloss black, but would like confirmation from someone who knows, or owns a 1970 W30 convertible. Thanks in advance. |

I am having my car repainted as well, I am leaving the rear fender wells left alone and they are a flat black. The floor pan was a combination of mostly over-spray from the exterior paint with some with grey and a bit of rust, my trunk is all splatter green/black. I did the floor in POR 15 since you won[t see it, enclosed is a picture of what it looked like in the early stages of taking the car a part

I believe they only used two different colors in the trunk. they would either be a Grey on Grey spackle. or a whiteish green on black. both of the cutlasses I had came with the black spackle. My dad owns a Buick gs with the grey. As I understand both are correct. Personally, I like the grey better. It makes the whole trunk area lighter , and cleaner looking. less dungeonesque
. Inside the car, my best guess is the factory black primer, with overspray from the origional color. prime is a satin finish when fresh. Kind of like the dash.![]()

Thanks for the info guys,
I think I'll try the POR 15 flat black for the wheel wells and floor pans and the gray for the trunk. (with overspray). Richard. |

I have never noticed overspray in the trunk, for the sake of clarification.

Thanks, no over-spray in trunk.

POR 15 is the best paint available. Sometimes I think it would be cool to paint an entire car with POR 15!

I used POR 15 for the frame, looks great in the satin finish. By the way, Fusick carries the aqua and black spackle paint for the sides of the trunk area. The fellow I spoke to said about 90 percent of 70' 442s came with that.
