I always thought the underside was the color of the car. The firewall and cowl top were for sure always the color of the car, in my experience.

Assuming a Black interior 68-72 ??
Upper dash was "FLAT" Black.
Floors Stayed Black epoxy in most cases, however i have seen a few with a grey epoxy finish. No body color.
You will see some body color overspray on the sides from whene the rockers were painted.
The firewall and upper cowl were painted the same color black roughly 60% gloss(Semi). Also this was oversprayed onto the underside of the toe boards as the cowl turned into the floor pan.
underside of Hoods were also black epoxy with varying body color oversprayed along the underside front edge of the hood

Interesting. I haven't seen this on any of my sixties cars. All the firewalls are the colour of the car. Guy came by yesterday with a 64 Pontiac factory bronze. Same thing, bronze firewall and upper cowl, and still had the factory grease pencil markings on it. Maybe it was an Oldsmobile only thing, and I haven't owned enough, although I've had many from the sixties.

68 -72 this is how it was. Poster has a 69.
Cutlass's 64-67 the firewalls black but varied the body color as the factory painted the upper cowl and part of the firewall face. This could vary from seeing just a little body color from the wiper cover down to maybe 6" or more down

Hard to see, but here's a 65 Cutlass firewall. Was factory green except for some oversprayed primer I played with. A cowl shot, too. Factory green.

This next one is my 65 442. It is only black because it was repainted. The paint flakes off in certain spots and you can see the original white poking through. I'm not much of a painter. Rattle can Dave, should be my name.

I have a 1970 cutlass supreme that was factory white, yet the firewall is light azure blue metallic. It hasn’t been repainted, has anyone seen this before? A car where the Firewall didn’t match the body color?
