Trying To Reuse The Original Bumper Fillers - How Do They Look To You?
I am trying on my 70 W-30 resto to reuse as many original to the car parts as I can - if they are good enough to do well at a major car show judged by people who know what to look for. An item I am on the fence about reusing are my original bumper fillers. I don't know about the quality or authenticity of the repos, so I am hoping these will be OK. Apparently Olds used some kind of haphazardly applied glue to hold the filler to the bumper. I got most of it off, along with paint overspray from the previous repainting. Comments are welcome

The OCA does not verify if a car is real or a clone during judging. They are not going to check to see if the bumper fillers are original. I appreciate your zest for originality but sometimes you need to draw a line.

My rear fillers turned to dust when I touched them. I got new ones from Fusick, but din't look at them very close so far.
Q: Can I pop them in somehow without removing the bumper? Is there a way to thread them in when they're soft and new?

These fillers drive me nuts!
I did not replace mine and went with the originals....cleaned them up etc.
Every time I walk past my car, I notice them because they look a little rough.
IMO, replace them, not for judging but for your satisfaction.

I would go with the originals.
I used repro's from ILT a couple/few years back and for being only a few years old they are showing age already (cracking around the edges). My car is driven only during fair weather and stays in the garage. Maybe it's the sun and heat that is deteriorating the repro rubber.

Thanks for the advice. I think the LH one is OK to use, but the RH side has a few surface looking cracks in it that probably no one but me would ever notice. If it wasn't such a pain to remove and install the filler after the bumper was mounted it would not be such a big deal.
