I'm the proud new owner of a "69 442

. Sure glad I found this forum!
Do you folks know of a place to check my vin code? I think it might be a holiday coupe. I'm also interested in finding a reliable source for parts.

Congratulations on your find! I am thinking that the 442 was an options from '66 to '68 or maybe '69, then for a few years it became it's own model, then went back to being an option on the Cutlass line. Although I thought the Holiday Coupe was an option as well. ??????? I am not so knowledgeable on the smaller cars.

Holiday or Celebrity
Welcome.
Some info you may or may not want…
In Oldsmobile vernacular A Holiday (coupe or sedan) indicates a HARDTOP (no B Pillar) and starting in the later 1950’s a Celebrity (coupe or sedan) refers to a SEDAN (B Pillar from roof to floor). The F/85, Cutlass and 442 pillared coupes have also been referred to as Sport Coupe.

In the late 1940’s and early 1950’s GM introduced Hardtop Convertibles (fixed steel roofs with the B pillar cutoff at the belt line like a true convertible). Cadillac called their Hardtop the Coupe Deville, Pontiac had the Catalina, Olds had the Holiday (88 and 98), Buick had the Riviera (Roadmaster and Super) and Chevy had the BelAir. Later these names became models of their own except for the Olds Holiday. Starting in 1955 GM applied the same designations to the four door Hardtops.

So you could buy a …
Cadillac Coupe Deville (just “Deville” for the 4 door)
Chevy Belair
Olds 88, Super88 or 98 Holiday
Pontiac Starchief Catalina
Buick Roadmaster or Super Riviera

Good morning!

I found a blurb that said w30's produced in lansing MI, had an M in the 7th.
spot in the vin. Mine does.

Can anyone verify this?

Funny thing too, my car is missing the original Carb, manifold, air cleaner and tranny.

For 1967 to 1971 the 7th digit indicates the Assembly plant -
B = Baltimore, MD
G = Framingham, MA
K = Kansas City, KS
M = Lansing, MI
R = Arlington, TX
Z = Fremont, CA
1 = Oshawa, ON Canada

This says that the car is a Holiday Coupe, but not a 442. "TR 937" means that it has a white vinyl interior. 61 E for the paint doesn't quite make sense. 61 is for "sable" paint, but I can't find anything about letter designations for paint in 1969. The letter codes for paint were only used until 1968.

You should have started your own thread to introduce yourself

. Welcome to the site. This is a good place to start to get info on your car. Of course there are other sites that specialize in 442s but you can probably find them easily yourself. I would also recommend Year One, they are a bid supplier for muscle car parts including the 442; body panels, seats, mirrors, OAI hoods, etc. There is also Fusicks and Kanter, they both specialize in Oldsmobile parts and have sites on the internet. Also try your local Oldsmobile Club of America, they have local chapters everywhere. Again, welcome to the site.

Hi this is Dars66, I am also a new guy. I had a couple of 442s a 66 and a 67 when I was in High School. I hated to have to sell them in my twenties (girl trouble). Here I am twenty years later and my wife surprises me with a 1966 numbers matching 442 red on red 4 speed convertible for father's day! What a surprise!! I am NOT KIDDING. It is almost perfect. I found a rare as chicken lips bullet dash tach and a four speed console both are perfect. The only draw back is that I live in north Idaho and I have 4 feet of snow in the yard right now. I can only drive the car from June -September. It is a blast to drive. I found a decent outlet for parts. It is called classic cutlass.com. I found the assembly manual that I got on ebay to be a real asset. I am glad that I found this forum. Dars66
