Hi, im restoring my 1966 olds 442. I want to customize my car and Im thinking in installing a 17" boyd coddington junk yard dog wheels.
the problem that i have is that im not really sure if a 17X10 wheels with 275/40/17 tires will fit in the rear of the car? if yes what bakcspace and offset do i need? does anybody can give my and advice? the Junk yard dog wheel doesnt come in 17x9 only 17x8 and 17x10 Im thinking on 17x8 wheels with 245/45/17 tires for the front, is that a good choice? thanks for any advice Alex |

The 275/40-17 are the same 25 3/4" outside diameter. Again, with zero offset these will fit fine. The problem is the diameter. You'll have a lot of daylight between the tire and the wheel opening. Personally I don't think that looks very good. I usually run 255/60-15s on the rear, which are just over 27" in diameter. These do a real nice job of filling the wheel openings.

Thanks JP for the advice.
But Im not clear yet if the 17X10 wheels with zero offset wiil fit my car? 5.5" of backspace is good? I have another question, I put front disc brake in my car, the 17x8 wheel with zero offset still working?? I already lower my car 1" you think still too high? thanks Alex |

442 Guatemala,
Your 17x10 wheels will work with 5.5" backspace. I currently use these on my "67", along with BF Goodrich 275/40/17's. The car is lowered 1", and the fit/stance is great! The vehicle uses a disk brake set-up from a "71" Monte Carlo with 8" rims (same backspace). I believe you chose well. I have read, it is possible for 6" backspacing if you want to go for wider skins. Not 100% sure, someone can chime in for that. Good luck Mark |

Original size
What was the original size of the lods 442 1970. I'm running hopelessly small tires. 205/70/14. they are about 2" short of 27". What is the closest stock size i can get for the 14" rims.

I believe they are (where) a G70/14. I think the G70 is changed nowadays, but width is you're choice. Tire shop should convert to todays tire size/reference.
