Gas tank pad?

Okay,
I had a rotted hose at the gas tank. I had to drain gas, pull the tank to replace the hoses. Of course the bolt on one side got bound up, broke the nut plate that held the tank strap. I could not find another and fabricated one from scratch, chased threads on the other and bought new bolts. The last owner put every clamp where you could not reach unless the tank is removed! I got everything cleaned up, mounted the tank, hooked up the new vent & fuel lines, ground wire, and sender unit wire. Everything is done.......except I forgot to put the pad on top of the tank!!!

Do I really need the pad? I guess it does not matter ... It will go back!

I will drop the tank again tomorow. At least I did everything right so it will not be as big a job to get the pad on. I hate to assemble things twice!!!

It will stop metal to metal rubbing (static). You don't say what year or model of Olds that you have, but if the fuel tank neck is behind the license plate, then there is a good chance that it will not line up properly, making fueling up a pain. Replacement straps are available from many aftermarket sources, as are the pads..

The pads from 70 post are awesome, look good and are much more durable than stock.

Patton got one of the gas tank pads to me yesterday afternoon. I also lucked out and found a new sender unit. Pad is great, my gas gauge works now and no leaks from the rear gas line. I am happy with how things turned out (even if I had to install the tank twice.

Thanks Patton for getting the pad over just in time!
