1968 W-30 stripe delete

The documentation APPEARS to be legit, though difficult to really verify authenticity of a copy on the screen. For the (likely) six figure reserve, at least they could get the grille emblem in the right place...

And while this is a gorgeous and apparently well-documented car, how do they know BS like this:

  • 1 of 43 automatic transmission W-30 convertibles produced in 1968
Even better is this:

  • Believed to be the only automatic Triple White convertible with stripe delete and full size wheel covers known to exist
I could probably write some similarly over-constrained BS for all of my cars, but it doesn't add anything. To me, crap like this actually detracts from what is a beautiful car.

lol, I have always thought the same thing.... I likely have the only 70 W-30 stripe delete with A/C and 8 track AM radio, SS wheels, in blue with blue interior that sold in Manchester Kentucky. Must make it super desirable this way.

Mecum did a much better job of photographing the car and they could have done better.

It also has the very huydrographicaly rare temperature sending unit delete.

Does anyone else find it interesting that stripe delete cars did not have the fender emblem in the with stripe location?

The 43 number has been published for years - 170 with 43 being automatics.

I would not have expected anything else. Emblems don't look right in the aft position without stripes.

W-30

Thanks for pointing out the placement of the grill this is my first 68 442 that I have restored. I have adjusted and it looks a lot better. I only put that information in order to attract more viewers. We all know that each car is unique in its own way. That's what makes this cars so unique.

Wink

I only ask this to stimulate discussion about the "now standard" W-36 stripe on all cars for sale on ebay. If a W-30 car was ordered with the stripe delete with numerals in the forward position, then wouldn't it revert to the standard GT stripe? I notice that VERY few 1968's have the GT stripe. I doubt that it is common knowledge.

Looking at the docs. from the original posting, it appears that it is the V70 stripe that is deleted, not the W36 stripe. The V70 side stripe was deleted when the W30 option was added, or a 442 with the W36 was ordered. The box beside the option is filled in, in a lighter (white) color. Oops, my bad, as the delete is hand written on the other piece of paper.

w30 price

It pulled 68 k not sure what went wrong but the 1969 w-30 red with wrong stripes color change headers that was a 10 foot condition pulled 87 k. You would have to put another 30 k into the car to make it right.

As I follow new listings, I see the W-36 stripe is NOW not only standard on all 1968 4-4-2 & Cutlass models, it is now standard on many 1969's as well. Maybe they will start applying it to Buicks & Chevys next!!!

Why not !? Chevelle stripes have been infecting Olds's for a while...

The one above ? That was puzzling. There was so much incorrect/missing/changed on this car. I guess it being a 4-speed convert & the doc made the value. Either that or 'car auction shenanigans'.
