Valve covers-what do you think ?

hey guys, im putting my engine together as we speak, im going to wire wheel my valve covers and repaint them. what im wondering, is what you guys have done with the hoses that run from each valve cover ?. this is a 69 350 so on the driver side i have one hose that runs to the back of the carb, which ill keep, however on the passenger side there is some sort of filter, and it runs into the air cleaner. im going use a chrome air cleaner instead of the stock one, so can i just put a breather air filter cap in that one and call it good ? or am i better off finding performance valve covers ? what do you think ? also have you guys developed any good ways of getting the valve cover grommets in and out ? because they are pretty tough. thanks

I used a pair of channel lock pliers to take the grommets out of the valve covers. They should just slide in and out if you give them a little twist.

I suggest that you keep the pcv valve.
The crankcase filter can be replaced with a simple press in MR. Gasket breather.

The hose to the intake/carb must have the pcv valve on it and the grommet associated with it because I haven't seen aftermarket ones that fit it well. The other hose to the air filter element housing can be replaced with a small filter element on the cover itself as J suggested. People do this often, especially if they replace the valve covers and air filter element housing with aftermarket stuff.

I put a K&N filter in the other side. Works very well and looks cool
