Newbie with a question
Hi, I got a 85 cutlass supreme brougham a month ago for a grand. Im the 3rd owner. The 2nd inherited it from his dad. The thing is all stock except for the speakers, CD player, and a woodgrain Grant wheel. It has no rust. All the smog junk is intact and working( it even runs smooth as fuel injection even when cold). It also came with all the owners manuals and the window sticker. Its a 307Y with the 200metric tranny, 2.14(turtle) gears. And factory F41 suspesion and rally gauges. My question is would a catback exhaust for a monteSS or buick GN fit this car? I only see them listed for those cars. Also how rare is it for the Brougham to have the F41 package? Thanks for any help.

WELCOME! I don't know how rare a W 41 package is. You shouldn't worry about the rear end gears. They are just right for the engine and transmission you have. If you upgrade to a 350 or 403 in the future then you would want to put in a new ring and pinion.
Woot. another 85 on here.
I've got a couple myself
2.41 gears are lame I know, but you'll get used to them fast, and appreciate your next rearend and motor combo after the 307 gets tired and dies. (which will be a LONG time from now)
200C tranny is a bummer. I got em too. Converter slips around like a jelly donut on a pencil.
160,000 miles on it so far though.

Truthfully, I wouldn't worry about the rear end ratio. If you decide to change it to something steeper like 3.42 or 3.23 then you will have the problem of the anemic 307 to power everything. If you really want to beef up your car without going into a new engine and tranny rebuild then I suggest an aftermarket intake manifold for the 307. Then, you can use it later on a 350 or 403 that you might pick up for the car. Just enjoy the car for what it is. Even though it is sluggish off of the line I bet it is fun to drive with the little V8 and quadrajet when you are on the highway.
Olds 64...
an aftermarket intake on an 85 up 307 just makes it run worse in my opinion. They already come stock with aluminum intakes and edelbrock innies seem to mess up the airflow spin somehow.
It's really weird, kind of like it's breathing into a paper bag in and out with the same air instead of one big inhale of fresh air like it should.
Hard to describe.....
I learned the hard way, so hopefully this will save you some bucks for a better trans.
I've never heard of 2.14 gears but hey, anything's possible.
I have 2.41s in mine. I am sure of that because I have shredded them and replaced them once already.
Just picked up a 3.08 posi at the boneyard for 200 bucks for this summer's project.

Actually, I have 79 Buick regal turbo that has a turbo350 and 2.56 gears. The only problem is its in storage in Massachusetts. My dads going to tow it out here this spring. So Ill just swap the trans and axle out of that. Then my speedo wont be off either. 2.56 will be better than 2.14. Plus it wont cost me any extra. The regal is rust bucket anyway. I mainly saved it for the engine (79 is the strongest year turbo 3.8 block and crank) and trans. Ill upgrade further when I can afford to swap engines.
Actually him towing it isnt that big a deal. He owns his own tow dolly and was going to drive out here anyway. Sorry but he wont do side jobs do to liability and insurance reasons. I asked for my freind. Plus Im still planing on building up the regal too. It is a turbo after all.
