'69 350 oil filler tube removal

This is the last part still attached to the block I am prepping for rebuild. I can't figure out how to get the oil filler tube out without marring the surface with say channel locks.

Try a strap wrench and a teflon hammer to jar it loose.I guess its going to machine shop.
Its really a pain in the ***.If for ANY reason it can be left than do so.

This is unfortunately a big problem. I usually tap the tube back and forth with a rubber mallet to loosen it. It's a time consuming process. Usually I give up and end up marring the tube with pliers...

This worked except it came out before I got to the giving up part. Knocked it back and forth several times then started hitting upward on the point of the tube near the bottom that goes from large to small. Also soaked the area with wd-40 several times since yesterday. That probably helped too. Thanks for the tip Joe!

Speaking of the oil filler tube on a 1969 350, what color did the factory paint the tube, black (gloss?) or gold?

Find or fabricate a wooden dowel or old hammer handle ...etc... that can be made to just fit inside the filler tube & then 'worry it' back and forth gently and it will walk back out of the hole relatively easily. Not fast but will keep the tube and more importantly the cap seat intact. Learned this after destroying my first one, and an older & wiser suggestion was offered, Good luck

1. This thread is from 2007.

2. The factory painted the whole engine gold, including the oil fill tube.

Just throwing it out there early. Sometimes one guy will post on an ancient thread, then another ten will pile on with advice for the OP, who's probably gotten divorced, sold the car, bought a Vette, met some young chick, and is remarried already.

Ah, but new folks also need this tube removal advice.

When I first joined, I was replying to ages-old threads because they were presented to me, and the last addition date was not easy to spot.

I too got schooled and chastised. Now I only do FRESH threads!
