394 crankshaft 1964
394 crankshaft 1964
Hi
My question is: is there anyone who knows how big the different could be if you measure the area were the rods are mounted for the crankshaft of 394 from 1964. One rod is broken and the piston has some damage, so I’m a little worried that the crankshaft is not OK.
Thanks!

If it helps you any, the crankshafts are supposed to be the same from '62-4.
From '59-61 there are differences in main bearing widths, but you might possibly be able to measure the rod journal widths from those years as well. I am not aware that that was changed any over the years from '59-64 on rod journals, but I could be wrong.

The 1964 394 connecting rod bearing journal diameter is 2.4988 to 2.4998 inches, or 2.4893 to 2.4988 inches with an "X" on the left front face of the block. When you measure your crank most of the connecting rod journals should measure about the same. Then all you have to do is order the proper bearings to have the slop machined out of your crankshaft.
More thoughts!
Thanks for the information, i even want to know how much it could differ between the different connecting rod journals and the centre of the crankshaft. What I’m a little bit afraid of is that the crankshaft has been crooked.
