Hi Im new to this site and Im in New Zealand. I have recently imported a 1966 Olds 98 from Arizona and it needs a new horn ring. If any one can help it would be much appreciated. I also have a 1975 royale 88 convertible. Great cars but nothing available in NZ for them.

 

what wheel do you have? i have one for one of the wheels but not sure which wheel is deluxe and what one is standard. i will post a picture when i get home from work. if you don't hear anything by tomorrow then give me a PM to remind me.

If the column is telescopic and tilts the wheel will fit. It might be easier to change the lot. If nothing else turns up Ill probably do that. Ill keep in touch. Thanks.

66 98 LS driver project

 

No Its been in NZ about 6 months.

 

Just curious. I saw a good project in AZ om E-bay recently.

I like the dark blue of your interior. What color is the car?

I have a friend with a 66 Toronado parts car. I'll see if he has the tilt-tele horn ring.

The colour is light blue but sunburnt in places. the vinyl top is a bit lumpy and needs replaced but overall its in pretty good condition.Its on 14inch rims.

 

Unfortunately, they all are! That makes it a challenge to get adequate tires.
The car looks great. I see it has A/C, T & T steering wheel with cornering lights. What other options does it have?

Its got all the vanity fittings , pull out mirror on the back of the front seat with lots of interior lighting. Its has heavy duty rear air shocks and a tow hitch and electric fittings for trailer brakes. Ive just fitted a set of new chrome rims with 215/75x15s to my 75 88 so Ill fit the 225/75x15s and rims onto the 98. thatll give her a bit of a lift.

 

Does any one have an easy way to remove the blinker switch from my 66 olds 98? I have the wheel off but the switch will not fit thru the column tube. Does the whole column have to be removed? I would appreciate any suggestions.

 

LOL I just did this on my 66 on Sunday. Its pretty easy. There are 3 Phillips screws that need to be removed & the switch will pull out along with the trim around it. There is a metal plate that the switch screws to that will need to be removed in order to pull the wiring out through the column.

I still cant remove the outer tilt casing that houses the switch.

 

Ahhh there's a problem. Mine doesn't have tilt & I don't know what that setup looks like.

 

I just checked the Chassis manual to look at the instructions for that option. WOW thats a whole different monster to take apart.

I would recommend you get a chassis manual as it is more involved than the basic steering column,

Rick, Unless the cable is broken, don't try to take the upper part of the column apart. The switch is external at the bottom - operated by the cable running down the column. Look at your PM's. I sent you one a little while ago.

I have had a couple of these tilt-tele columns apart. If I remember you unscrew the blinker stalk and unbolt the shifter. Use a wide flat chisel and slowly slide the upper column cover up and off.

The blinker mechanisim in these units is prone to failure and very hard to find.

It might be much easier to switch over to a non-tilt-tele column than to find these parts.
