I was wondering if lets say a P255 60 16 will fit on a 15 rim ? I'm having an awful time trying to find some tires for my new used 15 " rims I just put on my CS . My rims are SS2 15X7 . I see tons of 16 " rims on for sale on Craigslist , but not many 15's . If anyone has any used tires close to me that they are looking to get rid of let me know . thanks Bryan

BTW... I guess I'm looking for 2) P255-60-15 for the back , and 2) P225-60-15 for the front . or whatever that doesn't rub on the fender when I turn sharp .

 

You can't run 16" tires on 15" rims. BFG still makes the T/A's in popular 15" sizes. I have them on my '68 on 15x7 SSIII's with 225-65 front and 255-60 rear.

 

You might be able to go up to a P275-60-15 on that rim for the rears.

215/60/15 or 225/60/15 are good choices for your car. Why are you looking for 255 or wider?

Lesson 2 on tires. The last number is your wheel size - always. So you need to have 15" tires, not 16, not 14. They just won't fit. It's like trying to put on size 32 jeans when your waste is 36. or Size 36 jeans when your waste is 32 - you get the idea.

The width to aspect ratio needs to equal the diameter of your original wheel/tire combination unless you plan to change out the speedo gear.

Question of interest: isn't 275 mm/10.8" a lot for a rim that's 177 mm/7"? That's 98 mm difference, or just shy of 2 inches sticking out on either side of the rim.

 

The minimum recommended rim size for that tire is 7.5, and a lot of us have run them on 7's.

 

I have (4) 235/60/15's that I would sell pretty cheap but the shipping would likely be the deal breaker. If you know how to get them to you cheap then let me know.

It looks like I'm going to get 2) P255-70-15 from someone on here . I know they are kinda wide , but then I wont be able to spin the tire and wear them out with the motors current condition . I like the wide look in the back , and I was planning on keeping the current tires I have on the front ( P225-75-15 ) , so this works out almost perfect .... eventually I will figure out what I want to do when I get this car painted .... Whenever that will be .

 

I think 255-70-15 is a bit too big, 255-60-15 is a good size. I have those on my Delta.

Yeah , they are not the exact sizes I wanted in the end , but they look better then what was on there . The 255-60-15 size is what I was looking for , but the tires in the front that came on the rims I just bought are 225-75-15 . I wanted the back to somewhat match the front ones . These are some tall tires that are on there , I feel like I could go off roading .

 

What does that do for handling?

 

These cars were never meant to handle like Porche's.

Facetiousness aside, I think it's a valid question to get that aspect of the equation as well.

 

I ran that tire n wheel combo on the back of my Plymouth Fury for years, it handled beautifully.

I wont be exceeding speeds of 40MPH anyhow . I'll be lucky to put 500 miles a year on this car , probably not even half that . I need to do some work on the motor before it blows up .

 

On the front tires u mention, the only thing I can suggest is to try them and see if they rub on a good dip.

 

omg I didn't think of that . Well , I have no choice now unless I get some used front tires too . Three of the four tires I had on the car were REALLY bad , so I can't put them back on . I guess I don't always think things through .

 

I have 255/70/15s on the rear but they are on 8" wheels. They are just fine but looking to go to 60s but now she's talking about 17s.

 

this is for a shipping idea only buddie check your local bus station i shipped four steel rims and tires for about 40 bucks once through them.

 

That's not a bad deal . I forgot that you can ship things via bus . I checked some tire sites , and the minimun rim size range for a 255-60-15 is 7" according to them.
