Power brakes on 55 olds

Just purchased a power brake unit that came off a 56 olds. Is it the same as a 55 olds. Read some threads where people are having a lot of trouble with power brakes on 55 olds. One of the things I love about my 55 is that it has been so reliable don't want to do anything to mess that up. Thanks for any help you might have.

It may be a co_incident that you read that the 55 had alot of brake troubles, i'm not sure but i can't see to much difference between a 55 and 56 power brake unit in terms of reliability.
The booster decided to quit on us recently, but according to the paper work i got with our olds when we bought it , it had done only 650 miles in the last 2 years so got to expect a few things to go wrong , i bought a rebuild kit from fusics and had it shipped here to sydney , my mechanic had a brake specialist rebuild the booster and while we were at it i got the master rebuilt as well, brakes are awsome and the old girl brakes straight, my wife and i just love driving the big old girl.
cheers chris.ps we have done 700 miles in the last 8 weels

vacuum booster

My book shows two different part numbers for 1955 and 1956 boosters. I dont know if they are interchangable or not. There are also two different styles a Bendex and Delco. My memory isn't what it was ten years ago,but as I remember a 1956 booster master-cylender is one unit where as the1955 has a seperate booster tank which lies next to the left hand frame rail and gets in the way of duel exhaust if you should want to do that conversion .

PS. My brakes have not given any promlem in the ten years since resto, wipers are a different story.... Tedd

56 will interchange with 55 made by moraine or bendix.
