47 Coupe New to the site.

Hello all. This looked to be the best place to learn more about the Early Rockets. I recently obtained a 47 Olds coupe, Flathead 6 single barrel carb and Hydramatic drive. I'm in need of some experience of the Hydramatic drive transmission. The car upshifts seems ok. Goes into final 4th gear quickly compared to other automatic drives, but ok, its the downshift that seem to hang in there. Will stall out the engine before shifting into first. I'm going to rebuild the carb to see if that will give the engine more power to over come the shifting. Is this a norm or what does experience have to offer? I would appreciate any and all thoughts. Thanks

Welcome to our site. If you need any parts I have the engine/transmission that came out of my '46. I will check my service manual information to see if there is an adjustment on that. Good luck.

Sticking governor is a good possibility. Easy to access by removing the side cover. Most trans shops can get the gaskets, seals, etc, for you.

'49 trans is pretty much the same as yours, Download the pages you need from tocmp.com.
