Came by a '76 w/ a 3-speed on column.....

had a buick 6 cyl in it....two door split bench. Guy said he wanted $3500 for it. I asked why so steep (not in great shape). He said Daddy ordered it new and its the only '76 with a 3 speed.
How would I verify that?
