Question for a 65 cutlass f85 transmission

I have the original 2spd jetaway of course. It has the switch pitch which I'm not exactly clear about? It felt like it was slipping. Not changing gears and taking along time to get up to speed. Someone said to unhook the switch pitch and try it. So I did and now it get's up to speed properly and changes gears but when it goes back down to the low gear it makes a clunk and the drive train pings. Any help is very appreciated. Thanks, Olds all the way!

check your modulator...make sure the vaccum hose is still hooked up...Those trans were not the greatest even when rebuilt...
