1966 Toronado Floor Mats, headlight cannisters
1966 Toronado Floor Mats, headlight cannisters
Hi:
Just checking- does anyone know of a source for reproduction floor mats for passengers? Even if I could find a decent used set, or a trashed used set, I could have a set made...
Anyone have a set that's available?
Also, looking for the guy's name that does the headlight cannister rebuilds?
I'm waiting on mine to come back from the body shop, but was looking for a dash pad- the only source for those seems to be Just Dashes, who is offering the reproduced pads for $1200.
Thanks,
Matthew

Thanks! That's who I was looking for!
Floor Mats???
I am finishing a restoration on a 1966 Autumn Bronze Toronado too. I bought mine without floor mats. I didn't realize they came with them. I have gotten aftermarket mats from GGBailey but I have to imagine they don't have them for 66 Toros. I am interested to find out where you might find them as well.
I am having the interior redone as I write this but didn't even think about having floor mats made. Were the originals made of the same material as the carpet? Did the driver's mat cover the rubber built-in mat that is already in the carpet?
If you have pics of what the original mats looked like I'd like to see them. Maybe my interior guy can fab some mats to look stock...never know!
Thanks in advance,
Jeff in Minneapolis
The driving season here is alot shorter than California!!!

The driver's mat was where the trim frames it in; there was a larger rubber rhomboid shaped mat for front passengers, and the rear passenger had a long single rectangular rubber mat...we had a dubonnet one in the 80's that had original worn mats...

I have the large passenger side rubber mat... it has the Rocket logo on it. It's in excellent shape for a '66 .... it's black..interested? I think I have the chrome frame/trim for the driver's side, but not the mat for the driver's side.

I'm interested... Please PM me with price if you still have it.
I am not sure, but guessing that it might have been glued in originally- check in the shop manual to confirm. Mine is missing that mat, too, so I don't know. Am trying to recall how they were held in on the last two that I had in the 80s, but that's kind of far back for me to remember...
I rebuilt my own cannisters. It was pretty simple, I just had to drill out the rivets and lube up the inside a bit. I polished the rod with some emery cloth and lubed that up as well. Maybe it can get more complicated, but it's just a spring inside there. The worst thing possible is having that spring break, but I would assume most failures are due to a little bit of rust on that metal rod.
I got mine back from Ken Hitchcock, but they have not been installed yet. Was waiting on schematics for hoses...also need to figure out hot to hook up the cornering lamps.
The toronado owners association has the schematics you need. The first diagram is for the earlier models with 2 hose coming out of the reservoir, but halfway down there's a sencond diagram for the later cars.
