67 Toro front door handles

I have a 1967 Toro with interior handles for opening the doors from the front or back seats on each door. The handles for back seat passengers work great. The handles designed for front seat passengers are not working. I currently have the drivers side door panel off, just finished the fiberglassing of the broken area for seat/window controls. The mechanism in the door is in tact, there seems to be some play in the pivot point for the handle. Any suggestions?

There should be splines inside the door handle that fit over the shaft of the mechanism. Is it the handle that's showing wear and not fitting tight? Is the screw that holds the handle to the mechanism tightening properly? Either way I would suggest you replace the worn/damaged parts, either the door handle or release mechanism. If you can identify where the problem is I'd encourage you to create a parts wanted thread. There should be a few members here with spare parts from early Toronado's. John
