Exhaust question

im re-doing my exhaust on a 1969 cutlass and i have a 350 rocket and will put on flowtech headers and 3 inch pipes that come out in front of the wheels, my question is what would be the best selection for a muffler to get a nice deep old school rumble out of it. i want it loud and deep. please give any advice....

Walker Dynomax mufflers consistently outflow the (no)Flowmasters in magazine tests and are much less obnoxious and droning. Of course, a 350 probably can't use 3" pipes. Go with the less expensive 2.5" pipes and use an X pipe.

Also keep in mind that some states it is illegal to have the pipes come out in front of the rear wheel because the fumes could get into the passenger compartment.

The Dynomax Race Magnum mufflers are really Loud and flow really well. I agree that
2 1/2" would be the way to go for size, unless you have ALOT of compression and Alot of Head work. 3 " you would be louder, but you would sacrifice low end torque. The Flow Path mufflers flow Really good and are really loud, however I do not know if they still make them. Personally I would use the Dynomax Super Turbo Mufflers, because they have a old school sound and flow REALLY GOOD!!!! Hope this helps.

I'll vote 2 1/2 " with x pipe also you can go with mandrel bent pipes for a couple exta $'s and as for Dyonomax, IMHO the best, I've used them on most vehicles I've owned( all that I've changed the ex. on you can't go wrong with them)

Here's a sound clip of my exhaust.Sorry for the long video. I have 40 series flowmasters, dual exhaust with flowtech headers and new 2.5 inch pipes from the full length headers to the 4 inch exhaust tips behind the rear wheels.
I'm glad to hear that you want to keep it loud. 3 inch exhaust maybe overkill though.I have a 350 rocket but am swapping a 455 in the next few weeks.I'll go with 3 inch exhaust then.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

If you state requires vehicle inspections just ask any station or shop that does them. They can tell you yes or no.
