Chevy into Olds

Ok I'm putting together a strictly stock dirt track car. The olds 350 has two cylinders with very low compression. Last race it was over heated. It either has colapsed rings or needs a valve job, but the other rings are worn some too. Plus the timming chain has some play in it. At our track other drivers can claim your engine for $225.00 so i need to spend the least amount of money as possible. I was thinking about putting a chevy 350 in its place but have a few question. First will the Olds tranny bolt up to the chevy? Second do i need to do more than buy chevy motor mounts? Will the power steering and alt mount up to the chevy? Thanks MIKE

Nothing bolts up. Motor mounts, trans, starter, exhaust, and accessory brackets are all different. That's a pretty low claiming value. I'd go with a rering kit and a Flex Hone to keep the budget down.

Even the trans won't bolt to a chevy? By the way its a 77. OK so if i go chevy i need engine and tranny right?? If i get engine and tranny do i only need to change the motor mounts? And do they bolt right in?

Let me add some more info. I may have a donor car. A Monte Carlo with a 350 and tranny. It has all the accesories and mounts. So if i take off the motor mounts put them on the Olds will that work?

Chevy motors use a different bellhousing bolt pattern than Buick Olds Pontiac (BOP) motors. Some TH350s and all 200-4R transmissions have dual bolt pattern bellhousings, but most GM transmissions do not.

What is your 77, an Omega? If so, the Monte frame mounts won't work. An Omega is the same as a Nova.

Yeah, find the frame pads and engine side mounts from a nova with a chevy 350
Or, fix the olds up.

If you were close enough I'd give it to ya. It has spun rod and main bearings. The crank will need turning, the rods reconditioned, some of the valve springs have colapsed, the pistons are no good, and i have no idea if the block and heads are any good.

Where are you located? Someone on here would probably grab it up.
