expected horsepower gains
Im in the process of putting a new Edelbrock Performer Manifold, and a 600 cfm edelbrock carb. i am also having the heads bored. if someone could give me just a rough estimate to how much horsepower i should be expected to gain i would be very appreciative. its going into a 330 ci.
also how much more hp can i expect if i put in a new cam? |

In all honesty, the machinist doing your head work will be able to give you the best information about your motor. Work with your machinist and your goal for the motor, and intelligent decisions will happen much faster for you.

Esp if you're going a cam in the future, you'd be better off doing a Performer RPM manifold and a 750 CFM carb, but a 650 would work nicely with a stock cam.
The Performer is just a tiny bit better than stock you're really only saving the weight over the stock cast iron one, and the RPM is only $10 more unless you think hood clearance will be a problem with the higher manifold.What are you getting the heads honed too? Which cam are you looking at? Is the car going to be a track only car, street car, or street/strip car? You don't want to go too high with the cam if you still want to drive it on the street, and keep vacuum in mind. If you don't have enough, you'll need vacuum pumps so you can still use you're brakes ![]()

clearance on the performer rpm is the issue. would it fit in a 1966 f85? i know im just blindly asking that to someone but thats the manifold i really want. il try to do some research on how big it is.
as far as performance goes i really just want to beat my best friends 2000 z28 camaro. people always jokingly say that i have the looks and his has the speed. well, i want them both ![]() |

The Holley 600 ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT HELP (unless you had a 2 bbl), and the performer will not do much more. The 600 will be SLOWER than ANY q-jet.
The RPM "MAY" help, but I really doubt it if on grandma's car. Heads bored???? What does that mean??? Heads get surfaced, or ported. Guides get bored. Cylinders get bored. So do I. I agree with all of the above^^^^^ Heads bored? Ported, maybe. First thing to establish is the compression ratio. That will dictate the cam choice, then in turn intake and carb choice. IMO, Olds engines like big carbs. Also, what gears and tranny do you have? What year and make car is it? Lots of variables, all of which are cotributing factors. The components need to be well matched and work together. Generally speaking, a set of gears can make the biggest increase in seat-of-the-pants fun, bang for the buck wise.

olds need big carbs??
than i schould better pick a 700 or 750 edelbrock 4bll if i schould buy a eldelbrock performer rpm. on the side it recomend a 600 650. Who have experience with any, i'm thinking about the swap for more hp to. And stil keep the 350 if it's not worn. D Appeldorn |

It is not an established fact, just my personal opinion. A lot of those carb calculators are not accurate for performance applications, IMO. Go over to V8Buick and they say the same thing about the 350 Buick, it likes a big carb. Again, IMO, a 600 is too small for even a mild-ish 350.

Mmmmmmmm. My 350 does OK with the 650 carb. Still runs in the 15's.
Would a 750 be better?
