Gas pouring out of carb

Hello all. I need a problem solved for my buddy. He has a 81 olds cutlass and he just took the stock 26? motor out and put in a 1971 rocket 350. It has a 2 barrel carb and when he tries to start it gasoline comes out of the carb. What could cause that?

There is a stuck needle/float in the carburetor or there is debris interfering and keeping the needle from sealing on the seat. A rebuild kit should fix that.

The float may be out of adjustment, stuck or bad. Rebuild it if it has not been done.
