330 balancer?
Hi All,
Today I drug home a 330 that I believe came out of a 1966 as it has #3 heads on it. While looking it over I noticed behind the crank pullys there appears to be no balancer. It has a 2 speed auto bolted to it so I've not looked at the back of the crank yet. Was the crank balanced differently on this engine? I've got a 330 in a 1964 F85 that also has #3 heads and it has a balancer that looks just like the ones on a couple 1967 425's I have. I've collected quite a bit of 1964-67 stuff in the last couple years but I still have a lot to learn about this vintage. John

I have a 67 330 and what I read is that 's how you tell the difference between 66 & 67 was exactly that.I'm sure it had to be balanced without it.Check the pulkleys and see if they have any balancing marks

I got a chance to check two 330's today. The 67 (#3 heads) I posted a picture of and one that was removed from a 65 Cutlass (#2 heads). Both have harmonic balancers. They're both rather narrow as is the band of rubber in them, only about 1/8" to 3/16" wide.
I had the 66 Jetstar 88 out to get breakfast this morning. But forgot to check it. Not sure if I'd be able to see it though. What was used in place of a balancer? Did the crank seal to the timing cover? If you get a chance could you post a pic.? Don |
