I've never heard of this engine but there's a simple mathimatical formula to figure out the displacement.
4900 cc= 4.9 litres, 1 litre = about 61 cubic inches,
4.9L= about 299 c.i.
Hope this helps.

Send me the casting number and letter on the horizontal shelf right behind the water pump, just to the [driver's] right of the oil pressure sensor. The casting numbers are usually about ¾" - 1" tall, and the ID/Code is usually a bit larger, a little over an inch. It will be a 6 digit number followed by a larger letter or number if it is truly an Olds motor.

I used to own a 79 Delta Royale with a 4.9 litre V-8 and it was actually a Pontiac 301. The years from 1977 to the mid 80's were the "corporate" years at GM. All the divisions shared their technology and parts, which made all the products amazingly similar - something lots of customers didn't like - contributing to the downfall of Oldsmobile. I'd be willing to bet you have a Pontiac 301 under your hood. The valve covers are very short and wider than an Olds, with a slight curve to the top surface- not flat. Olds didn't have any engine between the 260 and 350 at that time, so they used 305 Chevy and 301 Pontiac V-8's as intermediate-sized engines in the Cutlass and 88.

Hey copper128 you're right...I had a 79 delta 88 with a pontiac 301 in it. That was my first car. That car ran great, got pretty good gas mileage and didn't die when the rest of the car did. ahhhh the memories.....

I just bought a '79 Holiday Delta 88 - mint condition with just 50K miles - it has a 350 4V in it.
