Exclamation 72 350

I have a 72 350 olds with a 4brl. It is in a 72 Cutlass Supreme. I have heard that this year only makes 180hp. I would love to have it up to 300HP. What is the easiest way to get this kind of HP? p.s. I have a duel set of glassbacks already on it.

have you looked into getting aluminum heads? have you rebuilt the engine or taken it to a shop to get all the engine work done and have your rotating assy balanced? headers? new pistons? bigger cam? all these things will give you more power and a overall better running engine but like the last guy said you will have to throw some money at it. you wont need to go with aluminum heads if your only looking to be around 300hp so you will be saving alot of money right there.

Aluminum Edelbrock heads are for Big blocks, not small blocks.

I don't know what glassbacks are, but if they are mufflers, they are for a certain sound. Not for HP gains.

yeah your right but they will work for the 350 if you get the intake port matched. Also edelbrock isnt the only company that makes aluminum heads for the 350sbo Rocket racing makes aluminum heads.

If you gonna go performance everything and aluminum heads and intake you will be around 5000 dollars just so you know. If you stay with your stock heads and get an intake and carb new cam engine shop work done you should be able to get a nice rebuild for under 3000 dollars.

If he does nothing to the bottom end or goes with a standard replacement piston the compression ratio is gonna be in the toilet.

They physically fit, but require a lot of other work to make them work on a small block.

They were designed for use on 455 and larger engines. They can be made to work very well, on smaller engines, in racing applications.

Intake ports have nothing to do with how restrictive the mufflers are. By design, glasspacks are even more restrictive than Flowmasters.

If I'm not mistaken isn't his 180 HP rating that he's fretting about is net HP? From what I understand the 72's put out much more power than the advertized 180, but became a victim of the change in the rating standard.

Dude, am I wrong here??? Am I wrong?? -Walter Sobchak (The Big Lebowski)

From what I gather, the 72' is a pretty decent 350. the heads have 1.875" intake and 1.625" exhaust valves and are only 64cc chamber. The compression was dropped down to something like 8.25:1 by putting in the dished piston, but that can be easily brought back up along with the HP with some flat top pistons.

IMHO.
