Hey guys

This weekend my oil light came on while driving home. At first it glimmered a bit at idle at a light. As I accelerated it got brighter. When I took my foot off the gas it dimmed then went out. After a 1/2 mile it came on and stayed on the final 1/2 mile home. I eased her home and shut her down.

The sender was replaced about 2 years ago. I pulled it and it looked ok. I plugged in an oil pressure gauge from a friend and started the engine back up. It indicated strong oil pressure when revving (over 40-50 LBS PSI).

Thoughts on next steps? It seems I am getting good oil pressure per the Stewart Warner gauge I plugged in. The oil pump is also new about 2 years ago. I replaced the 40 year old original when fixing an oil pan leak. It has run fine for all of that time. The wiring is original going to the unit.

I vote for the sending unit. I think the bad ones and the good ones all look alike. They are cheap. The gauge won't lie. Go get a new sending unit, put it in and I bet your problem will be gone. Could be wiring but doubtful.
