Thanks
Great work!
The top one seems to include most everyone [including the Vista] So it gets my vote. ![]()

You know, it's funny. I think I just don't like the blue background all that much. Is there any way we can change the forum colors?
![]() If sticking with the blue (which I'm guessing is the case) I'd definitely go with a white or black font. If going with the white, try outlining the letters in black (there's a function on photoshop that should allow you to do this). If you want to find something closer to the Olds font, try this http://www.fonts.com/FindFonts/ . As far as the futura font is concerned, it comes standard on all Mac computers. I could always type it out for you and send it as a JPEG. I hear you on editing the cars. One idea might be to simply go to an Olds car show and take a photo of several lined up. No need to edit much then! And yes, I like that logo/emblem quite a bit. Might be cool to use in the banner. Just stick it in the center and then put cars on either side of it.

One can't show enough cars to represent the spectrum. So why not just show the Oldsmobile insignias/signs from over the years? One sign represents decades of models.

If the cars are kept do you think they should go back all the way or just post war?
I just put the ones that were easy to edit in, have to be able to see through the windows to the background. When they're dark you have to draw in the rear view mirrors and dash, seat outlines. I did do one with the 50's symbol and black and white lettering to see how they would look. I just found that Futura font and downloaded it to give it a try, learned how to get fonts anyway. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3323/...d10139b2_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3592/...a20744f8_o.jpg |

Cool. I really like the first one, although with the 2nd one, the name of the site is a little easier to read. Can you try the letters in white with the black outline? Also, you can add a 3D effect to the letters, which is a pretty cool effect. Gives them a little more depth.

I like the first one with the early Olds Hood Symbol, but the white is kind of hard to read

Cool. I really like the 3D/white outline. Makes it stand out better.
Overall, I think I'd limit the # of cars you put on there to either side of the name. This leaves room for that tagline underneath, and you can make the site name bigger. As was said, it's really impossible to have all the makes, models and years on there, so less might be more. I wasn't advocating the futura font for the name, just the tagline.

This is too cool.
If I were to pick today, I'd go with this one:http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3323/...d10139b2_o.jpg but I'd make the font a little more contrasting color (or perhaps a thicker outline) and I'd change the logo and put the Oldsmobile "rocket" emblem instead. Wonder how that emblem would look laid over on it's side, below the lettering? Another thought is to put the emblems over the ages below the lettering too.

I think if you seperated all of the letters in this version it would be easy to read. It looks greathttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3323/...d10139b2_o.jpg

Yep, same one I like. I figured just a larger font would do it, with maybe better contrasting colors for the letters. And get the more recognizable Olds Rocket logo, and hell, maybe even the 90's "slash O" logo on there, and we're done!

If we remove the cars from beneath it, then We'd be able to make the font larger, and hence make it easier to read. Only thing is, Olds is KNOWN by their rocket logo. This doesn't have it anywhere. Not that it necessarily matters.
If using the old logo though, I still think it might be a good idea to put a description beneath it or "around" the globe, as that font and emblem really make it look like a 40s & 50s Olds site.

Did some thread clean up to keep us on track and positive. We're all having fun here suggesting and being "artsy" with the new-logo-to-be !

You can't please everyone, and I understand that, but I'll add my 2 cents anyway for consideration.
I'd like to see Richards car (G-head78) in there because it shows we're not just a bunch of Puritans. |

just a thought but what if we didn't have any cars and had several of the logos. like the globe, rocket, needle piercing a bubble, even the final 500 logos. the final 500 logo was one one of my favorites of all of them. to bad they could not have made a logo like that instead of the bubble thing.
i am not good at this kind of thing. i am just thinking out loud.

We will probably never get a 100% agreement but looks like we may be closer to a consensus. I vote for the rocket logo, as was said, it is more recognizable by all.
Paul, maybe once we get is narrowed down to two selections you can transfer them to a thread where people can vote for one or the other and let it ride for say, a week and then tally the votes.

Finalized version of this one http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3323/...d10139b2_o.jpg is in the works. Then we'll have someone make up a "Oldsmobile logo only" banner, then let members pick via a poll. Should have this wrapped up in a week or two.

Here's one with some logos. Not sure why it's so blurry. It won't be obviously.

Here, this one's better. I'm not sure why the blue looks so light and a different shade. In photoshop, the color blue is the same color as the buttons on this page. Anyway, if people like it, I can get it fixed.

Here's a direct link. Not sure why that's happening

Here it is extremely small. Great. Glad I spent several hours on it. Photoshop sometimes sucks. I've had this issue before. It's the jpeg format function on Photoshop. Now, why can I see the thumbnail size, but when I click on it to blow it up, I just get an x-out? It makes absolutely no sense. I'll have to figure it out when I get time at home.

Hmmm, have to do with file size. I'll go take a looksee in the site control panels. Meanwhile, even the direct links don't work for me now. Usually that means the graphic is not there or cannot display for some reason, like incorrect file format, or corrupted file. You can always email them to me, PM me for email address.

I don't know why all the decision making about changing the Banner is so difficult. It looks like this Forum is shades of "A" Body format. Since Oldsmobile became the Power House of first place races, Olds has always been recognized by a Rocket, so let there be the word OLDSMOBILE & a commonly used pictured Olds Style Rocket, so this shows no bias to OLDSMOBILE production cars & vans and their owners.

I like either. haha.
Perhaps you should start a new post with a vote. I guess just note that I can put the emblems in chron order, I'll change the gramatical typo, and I also can adjust the color blue on there to be a little closer to the site. I don't know if I ended up using the correct one when I resaved it last night. It looks a little dark, so I'm thinking I didn't.
