Internal Assist Handle

The internal passenger assist handle on our 2002 Premier is broken.
Evidently the the spring that pulls the handle back up to the stored position has given out.

Tried to get one from the local Olds/Pontiac dealer with no luck. They tried to locate one in the GM parts system and couldn't find one.

I was told when we bought our Premier that it was a federal law that parts has to be made available for at least ten years. This was a concern as it was already announced that Oldsmobile was being phased out by GM.

Does anyone know where I can get this handle or who I can contact at GM to get this problem resolved?

Thanks!

I don't know about the Law, never heard that one, but I can tell you that you will have trouble getting parts for your Olds. BTW, I was not aware of that model name, had to check it out, found it was a Silhoutte model. Good luck in your search.

OH, and that is was in the Silhouette section.....

Assist Handle

Many thanks Oldsfan!!

I just installed the handle today.

It had been on order thru the Pontiac/Caddilac/Buick (old OLDS) dealer for over 45 days. They eventually told me there was none in the GM parts system anywhere and I should look for one in a salvage yard.

Thanks to your reply I called the local Chevrolet dealer and they told me right away that their distribution center had plenty in stock. The handle came in three days later.

I appreciate you assistance.

Handle

I'd go to the junkyard, I have an 02 silhouette and had a fender bender. I found out that the pontiac montanas and chevy ventures are the same thing just the hood is different. so I am sure the interior parts will work as well.
