New PB sixty foot

Ran my 69 442 at 41 raceway today and made 3 passes.
1st 11.64 @ 113 with a 1.60 sixty

2nd 11.60 @ 113 with a 1.58 sixty

3rd 11.55 @ 113 eith a (1.55) sixty

The 1.55 is a new personal best as far as my sixty foot times go.
This was on 275/60/15 M/T ET Street Radial. Footbrake launch. 3500 Stall TCI 10" converter. 3.42 to 1 rear type O axle.

There was a pretty good head wind today so I didnt beat my old best which was an
11.52 @ 116

Plans for the winter - Braille lightweight battery, New tubular front bumper brackets, HVH four hole 1" tapered intake spacer, new frontrunners. Probably look for a radial since these drag radials are woring out great.

This was the last time to the track for me this year and I had a blast. Great way to end the season.

hey buddie excellent times by the way and hopefully and definitely you will go faster next year. I am thinking about maybe getting some guys together to race next year and i am close to 41. lets hope for the best on this idea although it can be costly to rent the track or byron. lets think next september 10th.

Thanks and sounds good to me. If no rental, just getting people to meet up is always fun.

Jim,

Last time??!?!? The weather is just starting get good at 41. And 41 just plan hooks!!! Last year some of us went right before thanksgiving and the DA was -1068ft!!!! 5mph tail wind too. We plan on going again next month at roughly the same time. I'm going to try real hard to get 4.33s in the Pontiac by then but we'll see.

I thought I had it bad when I had to work every other Saturday/6 day week, every other week.

Working the whole weekend, every other week would be a total bummer, unless it was only a 5 day week.

Oh, glad you had a good time.

Its turn rotation on 12 hour shifts. ! was off last weekend but have to work this weekend, sat, sun, and monday, 7am to 7pm. I'll be off the following. Just got off midnites the last 2 nights. 7pm to 7am it kindof stinks but I only work 14 days a month. It took awhile but I'm used to it.
Also, Thanks

Thank you.
Its consistant & reliable. Drove 35 miles to the track, ran those numbers, then drove home. Good times!
I'd like to up the compression with better rods and pitons, add a roller cam, swap to 3.90 gears and shoot for 10.99 but its gonna stay this way for a few years. I cant complain about its curent set-up though, HaHa!

Ya, it pretty cool how inexpensively you make those things run 11s, back when I was in my teens we could go to the junk yard get us a Toro engine, work the heads, make a cam change, intake and carb change, buy a Cutlass out of a tow yard and have a cheap fun street strip car for next to nothing, those were the days.....

Great 60' times Jim. Very nice car. I run the same tire you are running and have gone as quick as 1.40 in the 60' with a light weight hood. 18.5 lbs air each tire. Get your Batt in the trunk and keep having fun with your Olds!!!

Thanks alot man. Fun is why what this car is for.

Battery is staying up front though.
I had battery in the trunk for 13 years and it was more trouble then it was worth. I havent noticed a difference with putting it back up front 3 years ago. Plan on going to a braille 15 LBer and ditching the red top optima this winter.

UpDate

Just took the Olds to the local recycling center to get weighed. 3540 with me (223lbs) and 3/8s tank of gas.
Heavier than I thought, but not bad for a street car running mid 11s! Woot!

It took some trimming and $ to get it where it is. Aluminum heads, water pump, intake, t-stat housing, starter, wheels, radiator, swiss cheesed bumper brackets & trans crossmember. No heater assembly, wipers, radio, insulation, fiberglass front bumper. Last winter I replaced all the front end bolts with shorter pan head fastebers. For the most part the doesnt appear to be lightened up. Full stock bucket seat interior. All steel body except fot the hood scoop and front bumper. Thansk for the compliment. Just keep working on urs and you'll get there. It has taken me 8 years to go from 11.90s to 11.50s. Now I want faster, as always. Ha!

WOW! thats 3 great runs and consistant to boot at the mph, you got that rascal running good!!! I am going the similar route with my 69 but how did you get that front bumper to look like it is chromed? I am going to try one of the 69 flat figerglass hoods and try to make it look factory. Alot of work ahead of me, I am working on those brackets right now, front and rear bumper brackets made from aluminum and maybe the crossmember.

With those times and that weight you're putting roughly 500hp to the street. Pretty impressive.

Thanks. The 113 mph should have been 115 -116 but I was racing into a headwind all day.
Bumper is from VFN and I painted it base/clear bright silver. I think it was a GM color. May go to a fiberglass rear bumper but I'D really like to get both f & r bumpers redone someday.
My hood is the stock steel hood with a repo H/O scoop raised to 3/75 inches. The underside structure is mostly gutted and rewelded for strenght. Weighs a little bit less than the all glass w-25 hood I had years ago, and fits alot better.
Good luck on your ride.
If you find someone who makes the 69 442 hood in fiberglass let me know.

JIMS2000lt I have found a place its GLasstek.com Ph 630-978-9897 I talked to Robert who is one of the owners and he is into racing and Oldsmobiles, he has a 69-70 bolt on hood flat for 490.00 and a pin on hood for 360.00 also he has front fenders and I have seen those and they are good. He also has fiberglass doors. I am considering building a race car with as many fiberglass parts that I can find for a 69. I will leave myW30 pretty much stock body wise. But I want to go crazy with a 69 cutlass body and make it light as possible to go fast as possible. I am 56 years old and its something I have always wanted to do. Keep up the good work with yours you have a real strong car.

Sometimes fiberglass componants isn't all they're cracked up to be. I have a glass lift-off hood, glass bumpers and lexan windows. Hood came from US Body Source, bumpers from Glasstek.......don't look too close at any of them after a few years. My fenders, doors and trunk lid are all lightened steel items. The last time we painted the car we weighed fenders & doors, compared the weights with advertised glass weights from Glasstek and figured in the reinforcing needed for "light" glass parts. I was going to save less than 50 lbs. Not worth the $$$$$ spent on the new stuff. Trunk lid was not compared because it is just the outer skin with minor alum bracing done later. Many other things to be done that add up. PM me for any other questions.
I have a DX filled with block fill, a set of RR heads & intake none of which are light. The beast with driver weighs 3250 taken on a NHRA scale.
