1986 Cutlass Brougham window motor replacement

I have a 1986 Olds Cutlass Supreme Brougham. I just ordered a replacement driver's window motor, are there any hints or warnings for this model? I've changed a motor on a 93 Z28 before and that required drilling out rivets

Any info would be appreciated!

It gets even better...
You have to drill out 3 (or 4) 3/4" holes in the sheetmetal inner door to access the motor bolts.
Other method is to modify some cheap wrenches to get into those unusually bad areas. (I heard of doing this but cannot confirm it.)

Other method is to remove entire window regulator, change the motor, reinstall regulator and realign window.

Given all this, just drilling some rivets would be fun...

I assume you tried replacing or bypassing the switch?
Is this a 2 or 4 door?
I have the manual if you get stuck. Also, oldsgmail.com has lots of helpful info.

The switch is fine, unfortunately. The motor lifts a few inches and stops, if you wait ~5 minutes you can do another couple inches and so on. This is a 2 door Brougham. I'll check the site you refer to, I'll only ask for you to check the manual if I get stuck.

Your help is much appreciated

Since this is a 2-door, this page might help ya'...

Removal and installation of the motor should be similar.
DO support the glass withthe wood blocks as shown, as if it falls, it would be bad.

They probably never even thought about someone replacing one...
Did you do the "cut holes" method?
Anyway, glad you got it done successfully!

Unfortunately the bolts are not marked by dimples on my car. I mostly removed and installed through the existing holed, though I did end up making holes for the installation. It was difficult making access holes for numerous reasons, mainly judging exactly where to make them.

Just glad to have it done and my nicks and cuts are healing

did the same thing recently on a 1986 cutlass 2-door, I found the dimples , but I had to take the motor out of a 1984 Regal I have as a parts car so I drilled 6 holes before the swap Glad the Regal motor was in good working order Not as tough as I thought it would be
