I picked up a rebuilt unit from United Carburetor here in Chicago, and it was all effed up. Still in the sealed plastic when I got it, I bolted it on today, I noticed that it had the incorrect rod for the Choke pull off, and I had to bend it 3/4'' to get it to operate. Also, the secondary tab on it, wouldn't even open up the secondarys with the pedal to the floor. I had to bend the crap out of it as well to get full travel. This was an exact factory replacement for my 307 and not a chevy carb rig in job. Supposed to be a bolt on and go. The air horn screws were hand tight which also could have been a disaster, but luckily I checked them out first.
Thankfully this was a freebie thrown in on a car parts trade. I would be pretty salty if I just paid $300 for that garbage. Oh well, It'll do until I rebuild the original. My advice...Don't get one unless it's dirt cheap.

My dad had that prob with Autozone carbs for his 82 ford. First one, the fuel inlet was stripped and it wasn't build right, it wouldn't even idle. The 2nd was missing a vacuum stud, and was sucking air. The third was ok til 2 weeks after the warenty, then it started to run like shyt. So my dad took it to a local rebuilder. $180 later, all is well and good.

I have to say, it's stories like these that make me glad I rebuild my own carbs.
