I was just talking to a guy who had one when he was younger. (sold it for 900 bucks about 15 years ago) he was telling me that he heard, after he sold the car that there were only about 172 made. I'm not sure how accurate he is but he seemed pretty smart car-wise.
Hope this helps. Chuck

I've got a dual gate in my 71 Cutlass convertible. The option is very desired, but 172? Check out e-bay. There are at least 1 or 2 on there a month (original, not dual gate 2s). They were also put into GTOs, but the shift arm was straight, not curved.

172 Hurst/Olds? Now THAT I can believe! BTW, it is a Dual Gate, not Lightning Rods.

The Lightning Rod shifter wasnt used in Olds untill the '83 Hurst/Olds. The "His and Hers" shifter you have is the Hurst Dual Gate shifter. I dont know if Iv ever heard of the Lightning Rod shifter being called the "His and Hers shifter" like the Dual Gate was.
-EDIT- Guess I should have read your last comment haha. Umm there is places out there that have reperduction dealers bulletins that tell the dealer about the new year car model. I have one for my hurst and it tells the dealer what options the cars had and if it was this color car it had this option and so on... Something like that would tell you the option code for the shifter and what optioned cars got the shifter. Mabye like only certen engen/trans cars got the shifter or something like that. Look for Dr. Decal Mark Cornea reproductions on the net... thats were I got my bulletin for my '79 hurst. It may not tell you how maney cuttlases got the Dual Gate that year but if you have the option code then thats a good start. Good luck. Last edited by '79 H/O W-30 : 09-24-2007 at 07:31 PM. |
