What makes a classic?
Is it the year alone?

Lots of answers from different sources. Some say year only, some use very subjective guidelines that they cannot qoute but only give examples ie: the 442 is a classic even up to the 80's year models but the 88 series aren't unless they are convertables, but someone else might argue that only the 60's 442s were classics, but some others might say the B series cars are classics too (88 and 98). Finally, others say only cars over 30 years old are classics then someone will question "you mean a 1975 VW THING is a classic?????
Very subjective material there...

Thanks. I was told it was 20+ years, but that didn't sound right. It is very subjective.

I think most states go by similar ages although it does vary. Here in Missouri for tagging purposes, 25 years gets you what they call "Historical" plates. Also, insurance companies have their guidelines by age as well.

By definition, within the old car hobby - Classic with a capital "C" is any car built from 1925 - 1937 (up to '48 to include some Chryslers) as dictated by the CCCA that represents the top in custom coachwork, design and engineering of the period. A '34 Chevy is not a Classic, but a '34 Cadillac V16 is.
A classic like most of us deals with, with a lower case "c", is anything we consider kool. 25 years or older around here is considered historic, which cracks me up. There's nothing historic about some of the cars I see driving around with those plates! |

Pends on the state.
Here in PA it's a classic at 15 years, and an antique at 25 years, and must be in a restored type condition. I just got my classic plates on the Delta (1985) and now the car is emissions exempt Check with your state
