Shift indicator linkage question

On my 69 Cutlass S convertible, now that I have the dash back in, it seems like something is missing. I have the wire to connect the shift indicator on the speedometer to the steering column, but don't see what it is supposed to connect to there. Is there supposed to be a bracket on the steering column, or does it just slip into the slot there?

I sure wish I had taken about 10,000 pics when this thing was coming apart.

Thanks,
Ken

If it is a column shift, there should be a little clip to attach it to the shifter bowl (the round part at the lower column that rotates with the shift lever...)

Thanks Rob.

That was what I was thinking, but since my bodywork friend took that apart to repaint the steering column, I couldn't be sure. Now where could that thing be? Any ideas on a suitable fabricated replacement?
