omega 1973

well I am new to the board and new to the rebuilding a car.
I always been around cars because of my family background and it just seems the men in my family love cars.

My first car is a 1973 oldsmobile omega straight 6. its is in really great condition and needs work but I felt it was a good starter car for me to learn on before i move up to the v8 and rockets and what not.

well the car has a straight 6 single barrel carb 250 engine. I am looking for advice on how to get her some more speed without losing the engines intergrity an originality. she is almost 100% original and this is why i would like to keep her close to that, but get her some strength.

Is the engine black but looks like it was orange underneath? It is probably a chevy engine just like in my '76 Omega. That intake is integrated with the head and there is not SQUAT you can do to it. I have researched this. Just drive it until you can buy a nice little Rocket V8 like a 350. BTW that carb is a 1 bbl.

I think it is probably a chevy engine, Probably by '76 they were painting them black to try to cover that fact. At any rate, yeah, I think you will probably need to change the tranny also but don't put your money on that. Even if the bell housing bolted up not so sure you would want to use it being designed for the lower torque straight six engine.

I'm not sure where your from but in CT I have a:

*
Connecticut 355 th350 $1000.oo in car

No Pics (..forgive any inncorrect info, I'm not a mechanic.. I'm just going off paperwork I got back from the shop when everything was rebuilt around 2002, since the rebuild about 6.000 miles was put on the drive train,

*
Ideal for people who are looking to upgrade from a v6 or 307 ...the drivetrain is still in an 84 cutlass and all the hardware is there, you can it hear run and drive.
the motor is an early 70's 558-2 350 .30 over with shallow pistons, not flat tops, I had it stripped down the #8 heads were ported / polished rebuilt, shaved .30k's, new oil, water pumps, timing chain, gear, rhodes fast bleed lifters, cam name ? I forgot but it's 204 / 214, the ignition is mid 70 HEI vacuum type with an older holley 690 spread bore on the holley street dom. intake, x-tra set of #5 heads
a rebuilt turbo 350, B&M shift kit with a mid-high stall conv...
the factory EXH. manifolds were converted to true duel EXH, and the complete system is usable except for the left side by the cat. it was sent under the crossmember... there's a small leak.
*
At the time of purchase there are extra parts that the buyer is welcome to take with 'em..., xtra nose, various glass, interior, trim, ACC's, factory mags, factory power sunroof, brakes.. GM TPI hardware, buick mags, various accessory set ups from early 70's, A/C parts tail, back up lights.... etc
.. It's an 84 Cutlass brougham in case someone wants to finish the restoration
