'63 F-85 flywheel

So I pulled motor and trans (215/roto hydro slim jim) this winter, had leaking trans rebuilt and re-sealed engine. When I put it all back together the trans was shifting horribly and an hour later it seemed that something went - engine would rev and made a whining sound but car wouldn't move.

Thought it was a bad rebuild but now guys who rebuilt trans are saying that the flywheel spline was stripped and trans was fine. This confuses me since I only drove car 15+/- miles after putting it back together, never really heard of this happening and trans was definitely not shifting properly before this happened.

Anyone have an experience like this? They're telling me the springs aren't tight enough in the flex plate but that doesn't make sense to me since those springs aren't under constant pressure. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There is a damper that gets bolted to the tranny side of the flywheel, If it's installed backwards you'll strip it ( This happened to my brother's tranny due to Idiots in a delta transmission shop. ) Also the linkage that runs from the tranny up to the carb must be adjusted correctly .You should find a factory shop manual, It will show all the adjustments

Got a new torsional dampner (flywheel) from D&D fabrications in Almont, MI, installed it and adjusted TV rod, now back on the road and back to the former alignment issues and trying to find new 13in tires....

Thanks for response.

I would kill for a 4-speed.....yes, that is my car - my uncle bought new in '63 and although it's an automatic, luckily he opted for the optional floor shift console, clock & vacuum powered trunk release.
