HELP with trim tag, and car info.
I went over and checked it out more. It is a '64 Jetstar 1, and the trim tag info follows.
Oldsmobile Div General Motors Corp 09D Lansing Michigan STYLE 64-3457 BODY BA 201 TRIM 307 PAINT FF ACC C60 THIS CAR FINISHED WITH MAGIC MIRROR ACRYLIC LACQUER BODY BY FISHER So, the car was built in Sept., 63, and possibly is one of , if not the first Jetstar 1's built. The VIN is 2182. The rear has an August date as well. Am I correct? Last edited by doug garland; May 31st, 2009 at 07:37 AM.. |

Yup- it's an early one. Doubt it's the first since by 09D (4th week September) production had been underway for several weeks and Jetstar I were built in all assembly plants. The 201 is tricky. I don't know if that means the 201st Jetstar I body made at Lansing body assembly or 201st Starfire/Jetstar I combined body. The Starfire had a couple of trim hole punching operations the J-I didn't have but was otherwise the same body.
It was originally Wedgewood Mist (FF, a light metallic blue) with white vinyl bucket seats (307) and is a factory air car (C60). I haven't seen a 64 Olds of any stripe that didn't look good in that color.

Thanks for the info . Don't think I'll part it out, or crush it now. Any idea how many JS 1's are left out there? I had found several on a junkyard website, bit I think they were Starfires instead. They had a different roof than my car. Thanks again.

There is no way to know how many are still out there. Of almost any car, for that matter. Total production was about 16,000 so it was on the low side, and if there are many left out there, they're hiding! Very unusual to find one.

For what it is worth, the car in question was manufactured at the Baltimore Plant (code BA). The "201" would be a production sequence number for the Baltimore plant. Sequence numbers have nothing to do with the number of units of a given model type. They are just a number used to control the flow of parts to the assembly floor for that given car. The next car on the line could have had lower or higher number.
