65 fullsize Cruise Control
Hi Olds fans,
Does any living soul out there have any working knowledge of the original equipment mechanical cruise controls in a 65 Starfire or fullsize 99/98? Is this worth fixing? What have some of you guys done with it? Where do I start? |

The 65 CSM goes thru the troubleshooting, calibration and regulator repair procedures, but I can't think of anyone offhand who refurbishes these old motor-driven DANA units, and lord only knows where you'd find repair parts. Try Alan Kriss in NJ, 570-376-3942. He does clocks, tube radios, speedometers and GuideMatics. He may be able to do something with your CC.
Up front- are you familiar with how it operates? Sometimes a misunderstanding of how it works is all that's wrong with it.

The earlier 60's Cruise dash units are the same through 1966 but the under hood units are quite different. The 65 and 66 are the same. Depending on what your problem is, I may be able to help you. A common problem is the plastic gear that drives the speed setting cable in the dash unit. I have a friend who has had some made from aluminum. There isn't too much that goes wrong with the under hood unit except possibly the relay. I have a spare under hood unit laying around. How about some explanation of what it is or is not doing and maybe we can work it out. Bruce
