1966 98 data

I have just purchased a 66 Olds 98 convertible and am finding it very difficult to find a decoder for all the numbers. I would like a source to be able to provide production numbers, fender tag decoding, trans, engine, ets decoding. Anyone know where I should go? What books I should purchase?

Thanks

Larry, Hi and welcome to this site.

One place to start would be the links just above this thread and below the main menu bar of the site. There are usually three listed. Or, you could list your VIN and someone here could decode it for you. As far as the body tag and color codes, Texasred has a scoop on that as well as a few others here on this site. If you want a permanent reference to keep for yourself I can give you the info on one I have at home but I just don't remember the authors and publisher off the top of my head and I am work right now. Again, welcome

Here is the data on the book. The Standard Catalog of Oldsmobiles by John Chevedden and Ron Kowalke, published by Krause Publications copyright 1997

Thanks for the info Oldsguy. I have just ordered that Standard Catalog. Should have known - I have that Guide from Krause for Pontiacs because I did a 1960 Bonneville using help from there.

I've got the VIN decoded and some of the fender tag. I was hoping to find out how many 98 Convertibles were made in 66. Also - this car has the "original" motor according to the gentleman I bought it from but it has a 400 motor I think - block is 389244. I can't find anything that says that Olds ever put that motor in the 98.

This is going to be fun. Before I know it, I'll be looking through Ransom Olds diary.
