2007 Oldsmobile Homecoming

I am posting this in the Ninety Eight forum because, well, this is pretty much where I hang out on this BB, but anyway, I took some pictures at the Oldsmobile Homecoming in Lansing last Saturday and posted them to my website. Here's the link:

If you drove in from Pennsylvania, that was quite a trip; thanks for coming! We're building a new house about three miles from that parking lot so there is a decent chance I'll make it next year, too. Sorry I missed you. What was class 34? Did you bring the Alero or the 88?

We're kind of the opposite ends of the spectrum. When I first came to live in Lansing in the early 1980s, if there were ten cars at an intersection, seven of them would have been Oldsmobiles, including the police car. Even now, after Olds is no more, they are pretty common.

It's sad to see the old plants being torn down--not because of the elimination of Oldsmobile but because of GM downsizing. There were four large plants here that were shuttered last year and they are rapidly being demolished. My office here is about a block and a half from where Ransom Olds built his first Oldmobile, and about a half-mile from where the last Alero was made. Nothing lasts forever....

Still, I'm sure we have it easier here to find parts than it is Down Under.

I brought the Alero. I'm hoping the 88 will also be attending in 2009, maybe 2008, but I have to rent a truck and trailer to hual them out. The 88 isn't running yet, but I just got the yoke today, so that could change over the next few days

It is quite a drive. I'm just north of Philadelphia, so I have to drive clear across PA as well as the other states involved. It takes about 11 to 12 hours.

I'll post some pics later
