Are your gears in the rear end worn out or something? Or are you changing the ratio? My understanding is that the Olds rear ends are actually 10 bolt even though the cover has twelve. I have experience w/ the Ford 9" rears but only basic experience w/ 12 bolt GMs. I read about the Olds rears on a FAQ site f/ 455s which goes into a bunch of other stuff also. http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/ofe/455htm This has alot of great info on just about everything you'd need to know in general, not how to set up gears (ie; in depth) but all the good general knowledge.
I bought a '71 Olds 98 f/ the 455 and th400 to drop in my '62 Ford pick up, but as straight as the body is and as friendly as it drives and rides, I think I'm going to keep it, dechrome it, do the interior and paint, and install hydraulics w/ accumulators f/ a super low and very smooth ride. This one sat f/ 7 to 10 years and has 93,000 miles on it. I got it f/ $800.00 and it's a one owner, my neighbor who passed away last year. He was a good guy. Hope the site helps. I'll be one here more now that I've decided to keep this job.
