Floor shifter in 71 convertible

Floor shifter in 71 convertible
Not sure if this is where I need to post or not. Still new to the site. On the standard floor shifter does the carpet go under the shifter or is it cut out around it? Also doe the carpet get put on top of the mounting bracket for the rear of the console. Any help would be graetly appreciated.

Not the best pics, but this is how I did mine.
I left the carpet over the rear console mount, but cut holes just big enough for the bolts to go thru.

I also cut the carpet to kind of go inside the shifter a little, just make sure it doesn't bind up the shifter or cable.
