New guy here... Valvetrain noise

Hello everybody, My name is Paul, I am from ohio. I have a 1980 oldsmobile cutlass 2dr that has been in the family for a long time. It has a 68' olds 350 rocket engine installed in it. My concerns are the valve traine noises i am hearing. It has the jm 20-22 camshaft/lifters i purchased through mondellos. And i purchased a set of scorpion full roller stud mount rocker arms from summit racing...I have adjusted the valves several time, and i still have chatter.. mostly when acceleration..I have the correct length pushrods installed along with a set of elderbrock valve springs. I've done my homework and everything should work together....I do have guide plates installed also..Should my rockers move side to side on the valve even with the guideplates? Any help would be appreciated..Thank You...

Welcome, I don't know about your question and I'm assuming the others don't know which is why no one has responded. A bunch of very knowledgeable people here but I think the aftermarket type rocker arms, etc most may not be versed in--I know I'm not. Good luck.

Welcome, I'm not sure about your problem either but you might want to give Summit's tech line a call. They are usually very helpful, the last time I called them I spoke to a retired engine builder who had a lot of experience with Olds V8's.

What method did you use to adjust your valves? I'd start with verifying clearances on with all the moving parts.

The recent method i used to adjust the valves is i rolled the motor over until the piston came up "compression stroke" and i took all the lash out and turned them 1 full turn pre-load. I did this for each cylinder.
