Talking Newbie with 1970 Olds 442 wannabe.

Hello All, I'm Ace, longtime member of Nastyz28

New owner of my Uncles 1970 442 wannabe.
I just bought it off him in North Carolina and had it shipped here to Chicago.
Forest Green, Cutlass S, with some 442 styling added to it.
I'm NOT a purist, so I'll just get that out of the way.

I'm looking to make some upgrades to my system, but I have a few questions
in regards to components , and suggestions on how to proceed.

First......some details.
I believe it's a Rocket 350, and I have my Year One book to confirm it, but
haven't done so JUST yet.....but it's gold, so I'm assuming it's a rocket 350.
The ignition system has been updated with an MSD box, and HEI distributor.
Car has sat for 5 years UNUSED because he went through a nasty divorce.
It was JUST delivered this past monday, so I've been prepping it to start it again. Marvey mystery oil in the cylinders, new wires, new battery, new fuel filter, draining old fuel, etc.

Questions
I am curious what the following items are, if anyone would be so kind as
to help a Cutlass newb out here, I'd be GREATLY appreciative.

#1. What is this relay looking thing that has 4 wires coming to it like a distribution block??
#2. This is the Voltage Regulator I'm assuming correct??
#3. My headlights DO NOT work......any ideas??

I have got a 1969 Chassis Service Manual, and i assume your 1970 would be very similar, so this is what my manual says

#1- horn relay buzzer... buzzes when you leave your key in the ignition
#2- Regulator
#3- mine had a similar problem, turned out i just had to jiggle the connectors a bit and they worked fine. hopefully thats the only problem

and i have a question of my own, why is there two cops in that last picture?

very nice car by the way. looks like its in real good condition

The vehicle was transported, and was damaged in transport.

So I called the police to file a report for a civil suit to document the damage
and the Auto Transport drivers testimony that it WAS NOT there when he
picked it up. I knew the insurance would deny any claim, so I needed as much
proof as possible.......they sent me a pre-denial claim letter already within 3
days of him dropping off my car......without seeing any pics mind you.

So this is how it's turning out already......it should be a slam dunk case but
they are just trying to duck it before it begins to discourage me.

Here's the damage.
Bumper was SHOVED in and up somehow which caused the fender to buckle
and the paint to crack, and then he drove through a heavy rainstorm and
it caused a slight coat of rust to form.

Nice looking car to bad about the damage, but it sounds like you have that covered. What are your plans for it?

That's horrible, sorry about the damage. I bet it happened when they loaded it on...I mean for that type of damage it looks like it had to have fallen or dropped pretty hard. I'm so leary about using transport to deliver cars. Luckily I work for the airlines and fly for free so last time I just flew to the destination and drove it home. Of course some cars aren't capable of driving far so...what can you do.

Best of luck...it's a beautiful car!

Well....

I'm not a purist.....as anyone can see by my 78 Camaro build, nothing is stock.
So this car I'm going to get running, and drive, and see what kind of MPG #'s it can throw down.

Then, either a Gear Vendors unit or a 2004R trans for the OD in it OR another LS1 implant.
I'm not in it to make money......this is my Uncles car.....so it's not going anywhere.

check your connectors on your headlights,i bet they are corroded.

just clean the terminals on the headlights and also your conenctors with a wire brush.

check your fuses, right above the emergency brake pedal,i bet you have aome blown out.
