Hi to all, this is a great site!! I joined up about a month ago when it looked like I was going to be buying a 69 olds cutlass S convertible. I did buy the car, and it is in pretty good shape but obviously needs a bunch of things to be done, and a lot of TLC. The convertible top sags above where the windows meet, and I can't find any adjustment allen screw or any other way to adjust it. Does anyone out there have any ideas? I would greatly appreciate any advice that's available.
Thanks, my69olz |

Welcome
Welcome aboard
I've got a 69 442 convertible. I'm not real sure I understand the problem but those tops can be tricky. I would begin by compairing both sides to make sure all the parts pieces are identical. Maybe someone else has had the same problem. Wait and see who chimes in.

my69olz intro
Thanks for your welcome and response jamesbo, I appreciate it. Both sides do have the same problem. The sag prevents the front and rear windows from going all the way up, they hit the top unevenly.
Also I appoligize for not doing an intro.. My name is Howard, I am a 66 yr. old retiree trying to stay young with an old car. I live in RI and was a computer technician in my first life with IBM. |

Howdy Howard
I'm getting too old to remember but I think mine did the same thing once. Kinda like it wasn't "sizzoring" correctly. I took mine to a shop cause I was afraid I was make it worse. These tops are IMHO the kind of thing that if you know what you're doing and do it enough it's no big deal. But if you're like me you could ruin a good top pretty quickly.

Welcome to the site Howard. Always great to have another senior kid. There are a lot of us here. Good luck with the top problem. Good advice to take it to a pro.

Welcome Howard! I too have heard the same thing as Jamesbo. It's somewhat of an "art" to get convertible tops to work correctly.

Welcome to the site and I agree that it should go to a professional to have it fixed, there is no way I would try and something like that myself. Keep us informed on how it all works out for you.

Welcome.
There is a stop bolt on the hinge that may need adjusting. It is sort of hidden but you can see it with the top down. If it is out of adjustment it won't let the hinge close enough and it can sag above the doors. It could could also need an adjustment at the rear mechanism, the Fisher Body manual has all that stuff and how to diagnose and adjust it. A lot safer to take it to a good trim shop or top place, they can be really tricky, every adjustment messes up another one and they can become endless.![]() ![]() Last edited by Bluevista; April 29th, 2009 at 04:39 PM.. |

Top Sag problem
Thanks again for the welcomes... and the advice on the body manual, I may buy one of those for future problems, but this one sounds like it is out of my league.
I will let you know when I get it resolved. --------------------------------------- 69 Olds Cutlass S Convertible |
