Newbie or not

Newbie to this site but not to Olds. In 1976 at the ripe old age of 11, my great aunt gave me a ’52 88 Rocket that she and her husband had bought new. That car could really put down some rubber. In 1983 I was graduating from high school and shopping for a new Hurst Olds. I had one in my sites about 40 miles away but it sold a few hours before I could get to the dealership. Disappointed about loosing the Hurst, I swung through my local GM dealer’s lot. I had been through there in the evening a number of times but the only Cutlass they had were Supremes. Not quite what I wanted. This was the first time I had been there during business hours and the first time I saw my new car. A maple red Cutlass Calais with t-tops. It was a salesman’s car so it was never on the lot when I had been there at night. Not as fast as the Hurst but a very sharp car. Next day she was in mine and I’ve had the car ever since. 150k miles and still on the road. I put 400 miles of interstate driving on it a couple of weeks ago without an issue. The engine and trans was freshened up at 120k miles but the body and suspension are in need of attention. The body will be the first order of business. The car has never been wrecked but the rust worms have been busy. Once I can get the body in order and ready to paint, I would like to upgrade the suspension and make it handle a little better. After she is looking good and handling well it might be time for a horse power upgrade but I have a feeling that will be a few years down the road.

I would like to hear from others with this generation of Cutlass. Suggestions where to buy body parts, suspension upgrades you have done and how they have worked out etc.

Welcome

Welcome aboard.

Hang in there, the weather is breaking and the long cold winter is behind many of us. Some of us are not at the computer as much.

But, There will be some 76 gurus chime in soon.

Not sure but I read it that you bought an '83 Calais. Either way though, good story and glad to hear from you. If you in fact did buy a '76 then we can talk. I love my '77.
