Hi, I'm new to the site and am currently in the process of putting a 350 olds in a camaro. I'm going with the olds motor because of the torque

What year Camaro? The first gen F-body cars use basically the same subframe as the 73-74 Olds Omega, so those motor and frame mounts bolt into the Camaro. The second gen F-body cars came with 350 and 403 Olds motors from the factory, so use those mounts. These cars used unique mounts that were metal brackets on the engine that attached to the SBC clamshell rubber mounts on the frame. These same engine side brackets will also let you put an Olds into a third gen F-body as well.

It's a 77 camaro and I've already got the 79 trans am engine brackets. Does anyone know if the 330 heads will fit the 73 350 block? I don't mind making the head bolt holes larger if needed

I'm just using alot of oldsmobile parts cause I can find them pretty cheap, due to people that went the wrong way for preformance and put a chevy motor in it. Thier loss is my gain

Good for you man!!
A lot of Chevy people think that Olds motors are junk. The truth is that some SBO motors had as much torque as a BBC of the day. Of course get ready for people to call your car a bastard, esp the Chevy guys

You may need to open up the pushrod holes due to the 45 deg vs. 39 deg lifter bank angle issue.

I thought there may be a difference in angles, but i guess I'll see when I pick up the 330 motor this weekend. Still don't know if I want to use the 350trans or the jetaway trans. I'll be driving it on the streets and drag racing it sometimes to

I've had a '62 Ford F-250 pick-up f/ about 23 years now. Installed a 9" Ford rear (has the 91/4" slot housing) and 5 lug hubs on the front w/ reversed eye main leafs which dropped it quite low years ago. Still has the original 223 ci engine in it, but just bought a '71 Olds 98 from the original owner which has 92,000 original miles on it and am going to install the 455 w/ the turbo 400 tranny in my Ford pick-up. The old Ford pick-ups have no cross member up front and plenty of engine compartment. I plan on selling the Olds 98 f/ the body parts, as it doesn't have a ding or dent anywhere on the car. The vinyl top and the interior is very dried out from the car sitting f/ the last seven years in the sun w/o any cover. The paint is very fadded and dull. I sometimes think about keeping the car all together and doing the interior and body as it would look cool dropped w/ wheels. The big 455 runs great and pulls like crazy once the car gets rolling.
Anyway, I'm also going to be running an Olds engine in something besides an Oldsmobile. Don't feel alone.

I agree. It desecrates the Oldsmobile to put trash in it!

Hell yeah. Taking another one back. I just put a 73 Olds 350 in my 77 C10. Same reason as you. Get more torque. Im gonna do the head swap as well. As soon as i get a set of heads. Good luck with it, and keep us posted.

Great idea! People always ruin the Olds' with Chevys, we can also do the same to the Chevy cars with our Olds' engines
I have always wanted to take a g body Monte SS and throw an Olds in just because I can If I really wanted to piss off people, I could throw a 260 in one I don't care if it makes it worse, I would love to see the reactions!! Maybe one day I will start throwing Olds engines into Ford and Dodges just because![]() As you all can probably tell, I tend to take offense when people bastardize an Olds because they think Chevy engines are so much better, well, I think Olds engines are so much better than Chevy engines! |

Let's face it, the Chevy engines are used due to the availability of the small block and being able to interchange parts from all the many years they came out. They're also simple and easy to work on, and cheap to build, so many after-market parts f/ them. More people would build Chrysler products if they were cheaper to build. I've gotten into this conversation so many times over the years...What makes the car/engine building so interesting is the fact that there are so many views from people on whether to keep something ie; all Ford, all Chevy, to interchange, etc. Automotives is just a great field.
