Legendary door panels - bucket versus bench style

Hi:

Just noticing on the legendary auto interior website that there's quite a difference in price between the door panels for cars with buckets seats and dp's for cars with bench. Its $381 versus $644 for assembled panels. Am I reading this right? the cheaper of the two sets of panels is for a Supreme/442.

My car is a 71 Cutlass S hardtop (no post) with a split bench seat. Can I not put the 442 panels in? not really concerned with a restoration correct look just trying to save a few dollars and the difference is quite a bit. Can someone explain why that is? I'm not going the unassembled route so that's not an option.

thanks

I don't know where they're getting that from but it doesn't make any sense. The door panels are the same for bucket and bench cars in the same trim level- F85, Cutlass, S, Supreme, 442.

Yowzers!
At almost 2x the cost, they must contain real wood of the extinct African Jubo tree...
Do call them and ask - that is rather rediculous.

I also noticed that. Now, illustrate me please. What is unassembled vs assembled?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the assembled door panel is just that. A complete take out of the box and put it on the car unit. Unassembled comes in a box, in several peices with instructions and all the parts to put it together yourself.

The price difference is based on the amount of work required to install it into your car. I'm figuring that your local interior shops will probably order the unassembled kits in order to make money on thier installs.

Basically, assembled is a panel with the top rail installed, as well as the door lock ferrule and the felt strip. You still have to transfer over switch bezels, flat trim, reflectors, and medallions as they are not included.

Just got off the phone with Paul from Legendary and he was stumped too. only thing he could think of was maybe the $644 item was for a four door car. He's going to check into that and get it cleared up.

the part number for the Cutlass S panel is DO71GUS0012100g-PA and it is $381 assembled.

...and that part is suitable and correct for an S that has a bench or bucket seats. it has the correct buttons on it and woodgrain panels.

When I redid my interior and this is for a 1970 I bought the assmebled door panels, well worth it. But I still took off many of the stainless parts from the old panel and installed them on the new ones, there was a difference. Once done you really can't tell the difference, not sure about 71/72 parts
