Interior Questions

My 72' Cutlass Supreme has leather bench seats with cloth inlays(??) with designs integrated into the stitching on the cloth. Im looking to swap the interior from blue to black and at first was planning on standard black leather Supreme covers but was wondering if any companies are reproducing these seat covers with the leather/cloth style. Hopefully you guys know what i mean by the style of seat covers, if not i can try to get a pic.

My second question. I pulled the back seats out looking for the build sheet (unsuccessfully) but behind the back seat there is an oval tube type of thing, i was wondering if anyone knew what this was? I got a few pics of that earlier today as well if that helps

I wasn't aware that they made a leather interior for the Cutlass in 72, let alone a leather cloth combination. I've never seen any offered by the companies that reproduce the kits. That doesn't mean it wasn't available for sure, but my guess is that sometime in the past 39 years, someone has modified the interior to their personal taste. Are you sure it is leather and not vinyl?

Yeah im pretty sure its vinyl, i just call it all leather cause thats what im used too. It looks very original though, i should try to get a picture of it on here, my explanation is a little confusing. As far as leather goes i know it was available in 72 (or vinyl or whichever you want to call it haha) I know the vinyl was available, but this is a really cool combination that i would love if it were done in black. I'll post a pic soon, along with a pic of what i found behind the rear seat

One pic is a sample of the type of insert in the seat. Its like a cloth insert into the vinyl seats. The other is something i was wondering about behind the seat. Not sure what that is, what its function/purpose is

I know a very good interior guy that can duplicate about anything you want. He redid the interior on my wagon-both headliners, rear wheel well covers look just like factory ones, load floor carpet inserts, & custom made the rear seat in a pattern to match the '70 front bucket seats. The company is Kent auto upholstery in Beech Grove Indiana. You will have to wait a while as he is always busy, but does good work at reasonable prices. He also did the headliner & seats in my Rallye & they look like new.
If you are in the neighborhood, come take a look.

That tube is part of the emission system. Just make sure nothing's damaged/bent/broken & you can leave it there. It won't hurt anything.

Thatd be great Scott, Beach Grove is near me, maybe a 40 minute drive or so, not bad at all. I may check in and see what he says. So far my plan has been to redo the interior in black with bucket seats and a center console with dual date shifter but i might just stick with the bench if your guy can replicate the pattern in black for a reasonable price

Any info on what i found behind the rear seat? Just kinda curious on that or if its just nothing

Thanks, i may give them a try as well. If i could get new covers thatd be great, id like to do as much myself as i can on this car (not so much as to save money as to say "yes it was me who did this, not someone paid to do it for me") so id be fine reupholstering the seats myself if i got new covers

Still wondering about that object behind the back seat in my second pic. Is this anything? Or just some random piece of re-enforcement that all A-bodies share? Thanks

The flat oval can is a vapor separator.
Its purpose is to prevent any liquid fuel from flowing through the main vent line to the charcoal can.

The several vent lines from the gas tank go up inside of it. There is another line higher up inside that allows condensed (or sloshed) fuel to flow back to the tank. Another low line goes to the charcoal can for the main vent.

If you smell gas around it, then it might have a crack, rust hole, or physical damage. If it looks okay and no gas is smelt, just leave it alone..
DO inspect the rubber lines leading up to it from under the car though. They are often neglected.

Vega.... I have the same brocade cloth/vinyl seats in Teepo, only in green! I'm gonna be looking at getting them recovered in the near future also, as there is a hole starting in the back of the drivers side seat where the material is getting thin from all the years of bodies sliding in and out I guess. I'm hoping I can still get the green brocade cloth when it's time. I don't want to go to all vinyl seats. The tops of the back seat are starting to fade from the sun, as is the side of the passenger side front seat. I'll take the seats somewhere local and have it done.

Isnt it an awesome combo? Vinyl seats are really nice but i love the level of detail in these seat covers. Mine are blue but im going to convert my interior to black. All i need is the seat covers as i plan on reupholstering my seats. In fact i plan on doing almost all of the work on this car myself. It just makes it that much more personal to me Im still on the fence as to whether im going to do this or convert it to bucket seats with a center console and dual-gate shifter and make it more of an SX clone. Not sure. Might save all that for a 442 clone sometime down the road

Thanks a lot! That clears up a lot with me. Now im glad i didnt crack it open to inspect it further xD
